Planning and Preparing
Thematic Units
During the 2012-2013 school year, the teachers were introduced to Domain 2: Planning and Preparing. Each grade level wrote a thematic unit during the first quarter, implemented it, reflected on it (see Domain 3 tab), and then made revisions. Some teachers and/or teams decided to continue creating thematic units, only making them better after reflecting on their first one. Here are some units created by the Mirror Lake teachers.

Lesson Plan for Formal Observation
Teachers at Mirror Lake were given the opportunity to provide administration with three dates for their formal observation if the "Art and Science of Teaching Evaluation Framework Planning Conference Structured Interview Form A" was completed. Teachers attached a copy of their lesson plan. Filling out the Pre- Conference Interview form allowed teachers to see where and how easily the Marzano elements could be incorporated into the lesson. A team was randomly selected and given a week to tweak their lesson plans and create the planning conference interview form on iObservation. Pre-K was selected first, then Kindergarten was randomly selected using the Randomizer.

Engaging Lesson Pre-K
The Pre-K students learned about Butterflies in the Spring. The "Engaging" lesson plan (Science and Literacy) was written for one day out of a two week unit. This picture shows the culminating activity of releasing the butterflies. Prior to releasing the butterflies the children retold the story, The Very Hungry Caterpillar.
